New for late 1970 or early 71 is the New Style “Dodge Scat Pack Jackets” I say “Jackets” because Two different types were offered for a short time. Now I’m not really sure exactly when these new style jackets came out, they look very similar to the 69-70 style jacket (which by this time was not available anymore) but have only found ordering forms in 1971 dated magazines and other Dodge related literature.
Almost the same style as the 69-70 jacket, you had your choice of the unlined version , (thin springtime jacket) or the much heavier lined version that was more like a coat than a jacket. Pictured below is to the best of my knowledge and research Two new style original Dodge Scat Pack Jackets. These Jacket meet all ordering form details. And in my search I have only come across a few of these that were exactly like the two pictured here. I have not seen or run across any reproduction or copies of either one.

Lets view the ordering form(s).

After looking through and reading what I was able to find as far as ordering forms go, we can put together and compare the details in the forms against the real jackets for this New style. Such as………
- Knit Collar and cuffs
- Dodge Scat Pack emblem (On the Right!)
- New International Orange (carried over from previous jacket)
- Smart Black and White Racing Stripes.
- Lined Jacket for $15.95
- Unlined Jacket for $9.95
However,…there is one difference that I have noticed, and that is the manufacturer of these jackets. Notice in the form that you are still mailing your money to the Hughes-Hatcher-Suffrin company, but yet all Jackets that I have seen no long carry the HHS Tag… Why?…It is my belief that HHS was getting out of the game at this point and had started to subcontract the last portion of the year (and or the entire New Style) to another Detroit Supplier “The Great Lakes Jacket Company”. Payment going to HHS was the only involvement from them I was able to find. I do however know that out of a couple jackets that I have seen, all now carry “The Great Lake Jacket “Tag. This starts to make more sence in the “Post scat Pack Jacket” section. But for now lets continue looking these two rare 1/2 year only Jackets.
First lets look at the Unlined version for the New Style Dodge Scat Pack Jacket,…
The Unlined versions that I have seen and pictured below are a little bit brighter richer in color. Nylon material has a slighty heavier feel than the previous year.

New design has Knit collar and cuffs.

New style Racing Stripes ” Black and White”
Same as before “Drawstring pocket” And same as before missing from this jacket.

Same left sleeve utility pocket.

But different for this style and for the lined version is the right-side only pocket being a Zipper style instead of the “Flap with snap button” as the two years before.

Both Main and right-side pocket zippers are white nylon as before, and made by “Talon” also as before.
Same as the 69-70 style this jacket carries the 4-1/2″ Scat Pack Patch in original design. This is a huge clue when examining a genuine Scat Pack jacket and a copy. Almost All copies have a different design and size patch.

The Backs on these jackets….(Lined and Unlined) are absent of the 3″x10″ “Dodge” patch on back unlike the 69-70 style.

Unfortunately this jacket is missing its tag, or may not have come with one. This is the second unlined jacket this style that i my seen without a Tag. Would love to find more and or have others share their findings in this area.

Now for the “Lined” Version.
This Jacket is actually one of my favorites. I purchased this jacket a couple months ago from a Mrs Elizabeth Conner in Laurel Maryland. Mrs Conner’s Grandfather’s name was Vernon Aquilla Hartung Sr and he was the ower of “Hartung Dodge” in Annapolis Maryland. Mrs Conner’s father Vernon Millar Hartung Jr worked for his father Vernon Sr as a SalesMan in that dealership. Mrs Conner’s recalls this Jacket being give to her father for being the Top Salesman for the year…1970.
Unlike the Unlined version, this jacket is much heavier and feels more like a coat. The color as you can tell is lighter than the unlined jacket, looking more like the 69-70 style. Or it might very well have been washed a couple of time more than it should and is showing slightly bleached from the detergent. Still shows well and very hard to find in any condition. After all these were $15.95. A lot of money to spend for a Novelty jacket in 1970.

Lets go over the details from what we know in the ordering form and from the illustrated drawing.
Knit Cuffs and Collar like the unlined jacket.

Thought slightly frayed the drawstring is present and black in color.

Here is something different for the lined version. The single front right-side pocket is gone and has been replaced with two slip-in side pockets.
Left side sleeve utility pocket as previous styles.

Back-side is bare just like unlined version.

Same White Nylon Zipper. And of course made by “Talon”

Black and White Racing Stripes. Notice the pattern difference between the Lined & Unlined version and what is illustrated in the drawings. Very Strange.

Here is the Tag. Now Manufacturing has changed to “The Great Lakes Jacket” Still in Detroit like HHS and The Scat Pack Headquarters!

Here is the biggest difference and the reason for the extra cost. A very thick Navy Blue sewn-in liner.
Lastly the official “Scat Pack” Patch. Measuring 4-1/2″ in dia. Same as Lined version and 69-70 styles.

I find these two very odd late style jacket to be a rarity. And would certainly make a great addition to any Scat Pack collection, whether being jackets or other.
If you have any reliable information or pictures of either one of these two jackets, please feel free to share.
