The 1968 Jacket

Here is a very nice example of the 1968 Scat Pack Jacket,..AKA The Zig Zag Jacket. This was the first year for the Scat Pack Jackets. Manufactured by Hughes-Hatcher-Suffrin as ALL Authentic , Official and Original Scat Pack Jacket were for this year.

Color is a beautiful Bright Rich Red. Having two flap pockets in the front (one on either side) with white metal snap buttons.  Collar and cuffs have traditional two button configuration. All plastic buttons are clear red and Nylon Material has lightweight feel to it.

 

Dodge Mascot Bumblebee Patch on front side is crisp and sharp with colorful embroidery.

 

Back-side is very Unique with zig zag Bumblebee stripe.

A third pocket on the left sleeve big enough for small flash-light, pens, soft pack of smokes or drag racing time slip.

 

 

Plastic clear buttons on sleeve ends (as well as collar) and White drawstring still present. For some reason the drawstring usually take a lot of abuse and are missing on most jackets.

 

 

Something that I learned is that you can actually date a garment by what kind of Zipper it has.  Here is a Nylon zipper made by “Talon”. This Manufacture (Talon) was the worlds leading manufacture for Nylon zippers from 1960 until 1982.  Its been my research that ALL Scat Pack Jacket came with Nylon Zippers. And 90% were Talon’s.

 

 

 

All 1968 Scat Pack Jackets were Manufactured by “Hughes-Hatcher-Suffrin” in Detroit.

HHS in Detroit is where you mailed your money to. Detroit is also where the Scat Pack Headquarters was located.

The 68 Scat Pack Jacket is without a doubt of a kind and are get very hard to find in any condition. I can honestly say I have only even seen two of these in person, and fortunately I have not seen any reproductions or copies of these jacket in any form.

I can only Predict the value only going up as these first year jackets that represent Dodges performance craze start making their way out of the closets and back into circulation.
